Weekend tango courses

Not everyone can commit to a 6 week course, so we are offering a series of courses with intensive teaching over a single day or weekend.

2023 dates:

Sacadas, paradas, barridas - Saturday 9th December, 11am-5pm, Level: Improvers/Intermediate

£60 per person (students £50). Email info@simplytango.co.uk to book.

9th December - Improvers day

Sacadas, paradas, barridas

Saturday 9th December, 11am-5pm

This day is for you if you can lead or follow forward and backward ochos, the cross step and the giro in open embrace, and you'd like to lift your dancing to the next level.

We will work on technique, step combinations and musicality, improving your fluency and connection. We will introduce new combinations of paradas, sacadas and barridas to add dynamics and expression to your dance.

The Improvers day is aimed at people who have taken 3+ months of tango classes.

  • You may have completed our our Tango Fundamentals courses.
  • You may want to go deeper into the basics to refine your technique and practise putting steps together to music.

Saturday 9th December, 11am-5pm, with breaks for lunch and coffee.

£60 per person (students £50). Email info@simplytango.co.uk to book.

This course is at Ross Street Community Centre, Ross Street, Cambridge.

10th February - Absolute beginners

Zero to giro

Saturday 10th February 2024, 11am-5pm

A whole day dedicated to introducing you to tango. We assume no prior dance knowledge whatsoever and will gently guide you through your first steps in tango.

We will start by introducing the posture, then we will learn to connect to a partner, walking together in a practice embrace.

By the time we break for lunch you will be walking together to music, which is the essence of tango!

In the afternoon we will introduce step combinations such as the ocho cortado, the forward ocho and the follower's cross. By the end of the day we will teach the giro (pronounced hero) and, depending on how the group progresses, may introduce elements such as the parada.

The Beginners day is aimed at people who would like to learn tango but might not be able to commit to a 6 week course of classes, or to people returning to tango after a long break who want to go right back to basics.

Saturday 10th February, 11am-5pm, with breaks for lunch and coffee.

Book in 2023 at the rate of £60 per person (students £50).
Bookings in 2024 are £65 per person (students £55).

FAQs

What shall I wear?

Anything you feel comfortable in and can move in. There's no need to dress any particular way.

What shoes shall I wear?

If you have them, wear shoes that you can pivot in - i.e., shoes that don't grip to a wooden floor. Leather soled shoes are ideal. For more information about shoes take a look at this blog post: What shoes should I get for tango?

I booked with a partner, do I need to change partners during the class?

We invite couples to change partners often during the class, but you are more than welcome to stay with the partner you booked with for the whole class.

Is there parking at the venue?

There is extremely limited parking at the venue (1-2 cars max). It is usually possible to find on-street parking on or around Ross Street. On-street parking is free, but busy so please allow enough time to find a space.

There are bike racks along the side, near the entrance.

How do I book?

Email us at info@simplytango.co.uk or call us on 07768529332. We will confirm your place as soon as we receive your payment.
