A one day tango course for absolute beginners

Saturday 25th May 2024, 11am-5pm, Ross Street Community Centre, Ross Street, Cambridge, UK

Book your place now

A whole day dedicated to introducing you to the wonderful dance of Argentine tango.

We assume no prior dance knowledge whatsoever and will gently guide you through your first steps in tango.

We will start by introducing the posture, then you will learn how to connect to a partner. By the time we break for lunch you will be walking together to music, which is the essence of tango!

In the afternoon we will introduce step combinations such as the the forward and backward ocho. By the end of the day we will teach the giro (pronounced hero), a beautiful circular movement where the follower moves around the leader.

The Beginners day is aimed at people who would like to learn tango but might not be able to commit to a 6 week course of classes. It's also ideal for people returning to tango after a break who want to go right back to basics, or for those who want to learn to dance in the other role.

Saturday 25th May, 11am-5pm, with breaks for lunch and coffee.

£65 per person (£55 for full time students)  Book now

This course is at Ross Street Community Centre, Cambridge, CB1 3UZ.

“Thank you for a fabulous day, we both enjoyed it and had a great time. It’s testament to your teaching style that the group was able to progress from zero to giro in the day."

FAQs

What shall I wear?

Anything you feel comfortable in and can move in. There's no need to dress any particular way.

What shoes shall I wear?

If you have them, wear shoes that you can pivot in - i.e., shoes that don't grip to a wooden floor. Leather soled shoes are ideal. For more information about shoes take a look at this blog post: What shoes should I get for tango?

I booked with a partner, do I need to change partners during the class?

We invite couples to change partners often during the class, but you are welcome to stay with the partner you booked with for the whole class.

Is there parking at the venue?

Ross Street Community Centre has very limited parking. It's possible to park in the nearby streets, but allow plenty of time to find a space and check the parking regulations! There is plenty of parking for bikes at the venue.

At the Polonia Club there is a small car park at the back of the venue that you are welcome to use. There are bike racks along the side, near the entrance.

Do you provide lunch?

No. We provide tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day. You're welcome to bring your own lunch, or else get it from one of the local shops and cafes.

How do I book?

Book online here. Or you can email us at info@simplytango.co.uk or call us on 07768529332. We will confirm your place as soon as we receive your payment.
